MI v RR: Power Players

1. Jofra Archer (RR)

Archer was named Man of the Match after taking three for 22 off four overs in Sunday’s IPL victory over the Rajasthan Royals.

Fantasy Analysis

Fantasy Points: 114

Making his IPL debut, Archer was excellent with the ball, particularly in the 19th over when he knocked out both Pandya’s and Mitch McClenaghan, but couldn’t quite show the promise he’s displayed in the past with the bat, totalling just eight off nine, being beaten by Hardik Pandya. Uncapped at the international level, with designs on playing Test cricket for England despite needing to wait until 2022 for that to come true, he’s proven himself to be an excellent mercenary in all manner of global T20 leagues, coming off stints with the Quetta Gladiators in the PSL and the Hobart Hurricanes in the BBL in 2018 already.

2. Ben Stokes (RR)

Stokes mustered 40 off 27 including three boundaries and one maximum in Sunday’s IPL victory over the Mumbai Indians.

Fantasy Analysis

Fantasy Points: 69

After a slow start to their chase of 168, Stokes and the orange cap leader Sanju Samson partnered for 72 runs on the third wicket to put the Royals in a position to take charge. While Stokes’ bowling hasn’t quite come around, conceding at 10.57 an over while taking just one wicket, his batting seems to have turned a corner, scoring 85 runs over his past two innings.

3. Sanju Samson (RR)

Samson top-scored for his side with 52 off 39 including four boundaries in Sunday’s IPL victory over the Mumbai Indians.

Fantasy Analysis

Fantasy Points: 98

After scoring an unbeaten 92 against RCB last week, Samson struggled in his last two innings, scoring just nine runs. However, Samson and Ben Stokes formed a solid 72 run partnership in eight and a half overs to put the Royals in a position to chase down Mumbai’s reasonable 168 run target. Samson will be disappointed to have not kept his innings going, holing out off a good pitch to drive, but still moved atop the orange cap leaderboard with 239 runs in six innings.

4. Ishan Kishan (MI)

Kishan worked his way to 58 off 42 including four boundaries and three maximums in Sunday’s IPL defeat to the Rajasthan Royals.

Fantasy Analysis

Fantasy Points: 129

After Evin Lewis was beaten for a golden duck in the first over, Kishan partnered with Suryakumar Yadav for 129 runs on the second wicket to put Mumbai in a position to win the match. However, the bottom fell out for Mumbai after Kishan fell, scoring just 37 runs in the final five-plus overs. Kishan is now averaging 30.20 in five innings at a strike rate of 145.19 with three scores of 40-plus to go with a duck on the tournament.

5. Suryakumar Yadav (MI)

Yadav opened with 72 off 47 including six boundaries and three maximums in Sunday’s IPL defeat to the Rajasthan Royals.

Fantasy Analysis

Fantasy points: 156

After Evin Lewis was beaten for a golden duck in the first over, Yadav partnered with Ishan Kishan for 129 runs on the second wicket in fewer than 14 overs to put Mumbai in an excellent position. The half-century was his second in his last three matches, sandwiching a duck against RCB. Uncapped at the international level, Yadav has been excellent this season, averaging 39.20 in five matches at a strike rate of 140.00.

Two of the underrated captains in this IPL. Nobody would have thought that both the teams will go on to top the points table. Both the captains have led their team from the front, and the players performed accordingly.

At this venue, Hyderabad has never lost to Punjab. It will be interesting to see how much that affects Punjab. Ashwin has shown how good he is in playing the mind games. He laid out plans for every single batter out there and successfully executed it.

Kane Williamson made the absence of David Warner unfelt. Hyderabad is unbeaten so far in the tournament. The bowlers have done the job for the team. They restricted the opponents and laid the platform for the batters.

Shikhar Dhawan is in a terrific form and is loving the responsibility on his shoulders in the absence of Warner. Williamson, as usual, is playing the anchor role.

IMPACT PLAYERS:
1. Rashid Khan (SRH)– The prodigy only got better with matches. He holds the key for his team wherever he plays. Things will not be any different here.

2. Shikhar Dhawan (SRH)– The absence of Warner adds more responsibility on him. The team needs his contribution more than any player.

3. Andrew Tye (KXIP)– After an impeccable season in the Big Bash, that earned him a place in the playing XI of the national side, Tye is back to the IPL. One sure shot selection.

4. KL Rahul (KXIP)– His consistent starts at the top gave the edge for Punjab in all the previous matches so far.
