RR v KKR: Power Players

The revamped KKR team continues to dominate the tournament as they top the points table right now. Rajasthan after the defeat in the first match, came back well to win two on the trot but today went down as KKR won the match convincingly by seven wickets.

Undoubtedly, Nitesh Rana. The youngster switched roles with Suryakumar Yadav, impresses with his bowling as well. With fewer players, it’s a great opportunity for Rana to showcase his talent, and he does exactly the same. In today’s match, he bowled well to remove both Short and Rahane. Both the players were well settled at that moment. It was an important breakthrough for KKR. Rana bowled two overs, gave away only 11 runs, and picked up two wickets.

More than most of the KKR bowlers who were economical, it was the captain Karthik who outshined everyone with his athletism on the field, quirky captaincy and an unbeaten 42 off 23 to finish off the innings.

Along with Rana, Gowtham is also the best un-capped player of the match. In his four overs, he picked two wickets for just 23 runs.

Though Narine had a rare ‘off day’ with the ball, he coped up with his 35 off 25. After Lynn’s dismissal, KKR needed a partnership to steady the chase. Narine and Uthappa helped the team to recover.

When: 18 April 2018, 2000Hrs (IST)
Where: Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur
Team Head to Head
Matches – 15, Rajasthan Royals won – 9, Kolkata Knight Riders won – 6

After being destroyed by Sunrisers in the season opener, RR bounced back well to grab two wins on the trot. They were the first team to win batting first in this IPL. Their first win came against Delhi Daredevils in the rain-hit match. Sanju Samson’s brilliant 92* against Royal Challengers Bangalore gave them their second victory of the season.

Despite the win, Royals looks vulnerable as the team. All the three pacers went for plenty. Unadkat and Ben Stokes didn’t live up to the expectations. D’Arcy Short didn’t lit up the tournament as expected.

For KKR, Russell, Uthappa and Rana have been in a supreme form, but their openers failed to make a mark. KKR will be delighted their spinners have been able to impose themselves on the opposition, and as a result has been able to strike consistently; off the 27 wickets taken by the KKR bowlers, 16 have been by their spinners.

Sanju Samson (RR)- He finally learnt to convert starts to big knock. Two starts in two games, and a brilliant 92*.

Nitish Rana (KKR)- Blistering knocks, among the wickets, brilliant in the field. Explains Rana’s performance so far in this IPL.

Sunil Narine (KKR)- The mystery spinner somehow finds a way to rattle his opponents. He recently clinched his 100th wicket in the IPL, third overseas player to do so.

Shreyas Gopal (RR)- The young leg-spinner grabbed the opportunity with both hands, collected two wickets at an economy of 5.50.

KKR v DD: Power Players

Kolkata completely crushed Delhi at Gambhir’s second home. Here are the people who did well to put Kolkata on top.

The partnership of Russell and Rana is the winner here. Both the players gave Delhi bowlers nightmares. Rana’s 59 off 35 was slow compared to Russell’s 41 off 12. The Delhi bowlers had no answers for their batting. Even a middle stump yorker was converted to four. Both the batsmen were too good for Delhi.

Apart from Rana, Tewatia and Pant were excellent.
Which spinner can bowl the 20th over and pick three wickets?
When even international bowlers went for many, Tewatia bowled three overs giving away just 18, picking up three wickets.

Rishab Pant was another uncapped player who was brilliant even though he ended up on the other side. His 43 off 26 was entertaining as well.

Though overshadowed by the performances of the uncapped players, the capped players did their job well. Uthappa provided an attacking 35 that set the platform both Russell and Rana to smash right away. He took the pressure off them.

Piyush Chawla is one of the intelligent bowlers in the game. Yes, he was expensive, but he managed to remove Roy, the star performer for Delhi the other night. He saw Roy dancing down the wicket. He dropped the ball short and wide, DK was aware of the plan, collected the ball completed the stumping.

Sunil Narine became the third overseas bowler to pick 100 IPL wickets today. He ended with the spell of 3/18 in his three overs. Also, Maxwell smashed 47 off 22.

DJ Bravo (CSK)- The all-rounder showed what he is capable of against Mumbai Indians where he helped CSK win from nowhere. No doubts, a possible ‘captain’ of the fantasy team.

S Billings (CSK)- The man who turned the fortunes the other night for CSK will have to lead from the front in the absence of their star players.

Chris Lynn (KKR): The ‘Lynnsanity’ is yet to go big in this season. Probably, this will be the match.

Dinesh Karthik (KKR): He averages above 80 since last year’s IPL. This shows his consistency.

S Kaul (SRH): The pacer is excellent in both matches. He was economical as well as picked up wickets.

Fantasy tips: RCB v KXIP

When: 13 April 2018, 2000Hrs (IST)
Where: M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru

Team Head to Head overall:
Matches – 20, Royal Challengers Bangalore won – 8, Kings XI Punjab won – 12

The team that “bat deep” fails if their top-order fails. In that case, there’s more responsibility on Brendon McCullum to give the team a better start. AB de Villiers shall come in next and smash. Virat Kohli is someone who loves to play long innings and will once again play the anchor role.

KL Rahul has set expectations with his 14-ball half-century in the opener; he will be keen to take toll of the short boundaries at the venue he should know like the back of his palm. KXIP have been boosted by the arrival of Aaron Finch, who has joined up the team after his wedding. Karun Nair is the other in-form batsman in the KXIP line-up. Chris Gayle has a great record at this venue as well.

There are only a few players who did well at this venue and Chahal is one of them. Washington Sundar had a bad outing in the previous match, and he will be looking to change the things around. Also, RCB might be tempted to go with Colin de Grandhomme.

In the last match. Ashwin used his resources well. The Afghan youngster Mujeeb Zadran was difficult to get away. He will be crucial here as well. With the likes of Ashwin, Axar Patel, the team’s line up is strong.

MI v SRH- Power Players

The closely fought encounter saw players stepping up to perform for their franchise.

Undoubtedly, Mayank Markande. The current purple cap holder grabbed four wickets and gave away just 23 runs. He was the main reason why Mumbai can this close to winning. Only two matches in the series, already the find of the season. He is the best-uncapped player as well.

Rashid Khan! Who else?
In the four overs, he bowled, there were 18 dot balls. That’s three overs. He ended up with a spell of 1/13. The dot balls added more pressure on the Mumbai batting, and they ended up playing bad shots.

Shikhar Dhawan is the best Indian player of the match. One good thing for India is that ‘Gabbar’ is in a great form.

Fantasy Tips: RR v DD- Players to watch out for

Who: Rajasthan Royals v Delhi Daredevils
When: 11 April 2018, 2000Hrs (IST)
Where: Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur

Team Head to Head
Overall: Matches – 16, Rajasthan Royals won – 10, Delhi Daredevils won – 6
In Jaipur: Matches – 4, Rajasthan Royals won – 3, Delhi Daredevils won – 1

Impact Batsmen:
On the papers, Delhi looked like a terrific team with a bundle of young talents raring to go, but in the first match, they failed to perform well. The conditions are ideal for Rishabh Pant and Shreyas Iyer to showcase their talent.

Colin Munro though had a great start to 2018 but failed to perform big in the IPL. With Maxwell returning to the team, one more dull performance, Munro will be sitting out.

Rajasthan Royals has too many interesting prospects, but they didn’t live up to the expectations. D’Arcy Short, Ben Stokes will be the key in the batting line up for Rajasthan with Rahane playing the anchor role.

Impact Bowlers:
Jaydev Unadkat was the costliest Indian buy at the auction. He must perform to prove his worth. Hopefully, he does. Ish Sodhi will join the team soon, indeed a good news for the team.

For Delhi, Trent Boult must lead from the front, and Chris Morris must find his touch as well.
